Shoe Shining

Shoe shiners were people who worked for very little money in the UK by sitting outside and shining peoples shoes as they went by. This photo was taken in Picadilly Circus in 1953 shortly after the Second World War. The tradition of shoe shining didn't last long after this but went back a long way and was prominent especially in the Victorian days. Shoe shiners would mostly live on the street and worked very hard for very little money. In some countries,  shoe shiners still exist.
